In my view the Web has been hijacked by commercial enterprise who are increasingly imposing their aggressive marketing to all our browsing. Not everyone wants animated graphics, re-routing pop-ups and address harvesting. Many, of course enjoy the convenience of on-line shopping and it is clearly big business that drives the technological advancement of the Internet. So maybe there is a strong case for a division of the Web, a commercial zone and another for information sharing? After all, it all began with people just wanting to communicate, share advice and information with each other without financial gain - those were the days.
