That said, when visiting Tokyo, you cannot fail
to be impressed by the modernity of the buildings, shopping and technology. |
Shibuya District
Shoppers will love the upmarket central Ginza
area (make sure you go back in the evening for the video and neon
delights). Other shopping districts include Shibuya
and the trendy Harajuku
Alternative evening entertainment can be sampled in the Shinjuku
district, bright lights, clubs and arcades Roppongi,
is the most well known of the districts offering 'adult' distractions,
but expensive night-clubs are not over welcoming to foreigners. |

The Asakusa district
This district, of north-east Tokyo, is popular
for it's many theatres and restaurants. At the centre is the Asakusa-Kannon
Temple, with it's impressive Kannon Hall
of 1651 (rebuilt 1958 after destruction during the war).
To the east is the murky and industrious Sumida river, on the banks
of which sits the modern landmark of the Asahi Brewery company (the
striking architecture represents a head of beer!) |
Asakusa Kannon Temple
The area around the temple is home
to many souvenir shops, most are on the cheap side, unlike this one
specialising in exquisite, traditional clothing |
